We're No Longer Together — What Now?
Breakups and divorces are among the most painful experiences a person can go through. Whether the decision was yours or someone else’s, the period that follows is flooded with emotion — grief, anger, confusion, and sometimes even relief mixed with guilt.
Why is it so hard?
A relationship isn’t just shared space and time. It’s a shared identity, a routine, plans, dreams. When a relationship ends, we don’t only lose our partner — we lose the version of ourselves we knew within that relationship.
What can you do?
First and most importantly: allow yourself to grieve. Grief is not weakness; it’s a healthy response to loss. There is no “right” timeline for healing, and there is no universal recipe for getting through the pain.
Talk to someone you trust. If you’re struggling, psychotherapy can provide a safe space to process your emotions and help you reorganize your life in light of new circumstances.
A shift in perspective can be crucial — an ending doesn’t have to be a conclusion. It can be a new beginning and an opportunity for personal growth.
